Why Marriage is Good For You
Get ready to change! As soon as you’ve uttered a couple of important words before a celebrant something amazing happens: your life transforms and suddenly your future is a longer one with more money, sex and happiness.
It’s a plain fact proven over and over in research undertaken around the world – marriage is good for you! Statistically married couples live longer and healthier lives than their single counterparts. So why is this institution of love so good for us?
Firstly, let’s state the obvious reason – Marriage is a socially, legally and morally binding union – which means you have new rights to demand a few basic needs from your spouse. You can call on him to help around the house, hand over the remote control every now and then, go shopping with you even when the football is on and be there unconditionally through every mood swing - perhaps even watch a chick flick with you to buoy you up. So it goes without saying that you are going to be a much happier woman and with you in high spirits… he will obviously be a contented man!
If you are toying with the idea of getting hitched here are a couple of interesting and proven facts that may help you in your decision.
1. Better sex and more of it!
When your single friend is gloating over her hot, steamy liason last Saturday night, you and your hubby can quietly smile to yourselves and be comforted by the fact that the bedroom at your place is still a much more active and satisfying place than your friends.
American research has shown that couples who are married report more satsfying sex, both physically and emotionally. They also say they are getting much more of the action than their single friends.
2. Safe & sound
You’ve heard the old saying that there is safety in numbers – well the truth of this phrase is not lost on married couples. you will be a two person team. Just as when you have a dog living in the house, your husband also plays a part in reducing the chances of a home burgulary. A burglar will almost always choose an empty house or a house with a single girl over a home occupied by a couple, where a strong man is likely to put up a good fight. I’m sure he serves a few other purposes too of course!
The union of marriage will also protect you against the very grave dangers of turning into Bridget Jones and suffering continual lonely friday or Saturday nights.
3. Long, healthy life
Once you have, in your hot little hands the piece of paper that declares you a married woman, you can look forward to a longer and healthier life! as incredible as it sounds, it is a proven fact that marrieds live longer. A study performed in America found that a single person is likely to die ten years earlier than a married person. This is an incredible statistic, especially as previous studies have shown that a person suffering heart disease will die almost six years earlier than a person without the condition.
One way to explain the single’s shorter life expectancy is that they are far more likely to have regular nights on the town boozing and staying up all night. Now that may sound like more fun than
sitting on the couch watching ‘Everybody Loves Raymond,’ but you’ll be the one laughing when you receive a letter from the Queen for turning 100.
4. Mrs Money Bags
You will utter the words “for richer and for poorer”, and while you have to prepare for both, studies show you can look forward to the first part of this promise more than the second.
When you marry the man of your dreams you don’t only get his name but also his furniture, car, appliances and house… Now before you get too excited – this is a two way street – what’s yours is his too. You and your spouse will take a financial leap when you combine all your goodies as well as pooling both your incomes!
Home maintenance is also a lot easier and cheaper especially if you’ve snapped up a handy man!
Studies have also found that the man you marry will perform better at work than his bachelor friends. perhaps this is another advantage of choosing a night on the couch with hubby, watching your favourite tV show instead of staying out with your single buddies all night drinking.
The resounding conclusions of studies around the world is that marriage makes you richer!
5. Blissful babes
The children of a married couple are much happier than those with single or divorced parents. This is not only because they’re pleased their parents won’t die young but also obviously because Mum and Dad are happy enjoying a life of health, wealth, sex and safety.
Within the traditional nuclear family, a child is in a safe environment to grow and learn and studies show that these kids are often happier, smarter and healthier than kids from single parent families. These well adjusted children will also love you more and will generally do better at school and in their careers.
6. Happy days
Once you’re hitched with the man of your dreams you will be a happier person. Why? See points one through to five!
